Seafood & Bacteria Dangers

Many people are saying they cannot see this photo. So I resaved it as a jpeg, hopefully you can see it and please, if you want, pass it around and share it so that we can make our Parish aware of whats in the water here! This is a picture of my moms arm after the doctor's found it to be Vibrio, the flesh eating bacteria. She was fixing "raw crab" from Lake Boudreaux and surrounding areas and picked herself with one of them. The next morning we were in the ER at TGMC where we watched her blood pressure go as far down as 45/32. We were literally watching my mom die from this horrible horrible bacteria that, at the time, the doctor's didn't know what it was. They got her blood pressure stable and she was then moved to CCU where they could observe her more closely. The next day we were all in shock to what her arm looked like!! This bacteria was eating our mom alive!! Then the doctor's finally realized, after getting somewhat of results from cultures they had taken Saturday, that it was Vibrio. They took her immediately into surgery where the doctor cut the top layer of skin to relieve all the pressure from the swelling this devil was causing. Amputation was drawing nearer and nearer per the doctor's. Thankfully, once they cut the skin and all that infection just oozed out of her arm, her condition began to improve!! She has undergone 2 surgeries where they went in and removed the medicated gauze to replace with new one. Now she is in a private room upstairs and is doing SO well!! They continue to change the gauze twice a day with little meds for the pain. She's on a long road to recovery, but SHE'S HERE!!!!! This bacteria is very very bad and we only want to educate the public as to how to avoid catching this and risk losing a limb, or worse, their life!! Again, feel free to share if you want and I do apologize for the graphics, but if one doesn't know exactly what something like this causes, then they will always be in the dark!! Thanks to ALL and I mean ALL who wished and is wishing our mom well and the millions of prayers she's go and is still getting from everyone of you!!!!! But most importantly, thank YOU GOD for letting us keep her! Amen! Many people are saying they cannot see this photo. 3 Dangerous Spiders To Keep Your Pets Away From

By Dr. Tina Wismer Black Widow Spider Black Widow Spider Spiders are everywhere! There are over 30,000 species of spiders in the world. The good news, though, is that in most cases, spider bites cause little more than local pain and inflammation. Most species of spider are unable to penetrate human or animal skin. Luckily in the U.S., there are only a few spider species whose bite can cause severe problems in people and pets. These are the widow spiders, the brown recluse spider and the hobo spider. See Also: 6 Dangerous Foods Your Pet Should NOT Eat Widow Spiders Widow (hourglass) spiders belong to the genus Latrodectus. Widow spiders get their name from the female's practice of killing the male after breeding, although this does not always occur with every species. There are five species of widow spiders found in the U.S.: The black or southern black widow spider (Latrodectus mactans) is found throughout the entire country. This is the typical widow spider that is black with the red hourglass pattern on the female's ventral abdomen (tummy). The western black widow spider (L. hesperus) is found in the western U.S. The northern widow spider (L. various) is common in the northern U.S. Its hourglass is not joined and appears more like spots on its abdomen. The red or red-legged widow spider (L. bishop) is found in central and southern Florida. The brown widow spider (L. geometricus) is also found in Florida. This spider is brown with an orange hourglass. Widow spiders like dark, nondisturbed places. They can be found inside buildings or outside in leaf litter. These spiders are not aggressive and will only bite defensively. Cats tend to get multiple or severe bites due to their propensity to poke at and harass the spider. Bites are typically from female spiders, as the male's fangs are too short to effectively penetrate skin. Widow spider venom is absorbed into the circulatory system where it causes neurologic signs. The bites are immediately painful. On nonhaired skin, a slight redness may be noted with two small puncture wounds 1-2 mm apart. In 30 minutes to two hours, muscle cramps will begin near the bite site and then spread to other large muscle groups. Pain peaks in two to three hours. High blood pressure and high heart rate are common. As the signs progress, vomiting, diarrhea, paralysis and death can occur. Cats are more susceptible to severe problems than dogs. A single bite can cause life-threatening signs, but fortunately, "dry bites" (no venom released) are possible. The severity of the signs depends on two sets of factors - the spider and the victim. Spider-dependent factors include the size of the spider, the amount of venom injected and the time of the year (warmer temperatures appear to increase the toxicity of venom). Victim-dependent variables include the animal species, the size of the animal (smaller animals are more susceptible), the location of the bite, underlying health problems and age (younger and older victims show more severe signs). Any suspected widow bite should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Treatment involves pain medications and muscle relaxants. There is an antivenin, but availability for animal use is sporadic at best, although it has been used in at least one cat with good results. Most animals recover in 48 to 72 hours, although some people report weakness and fatigue lasting for weeks to months. Fatalities are uncommon, with estimates ranging from See Also: 10 Household Plants Dangerous for Pets Brown Recluse and Hobo Spiders There are a few species of spiders in the U.S. that can cause a large area of cellular damage (necrosis) with their bites. The brown recluse (Loxosceles reclusa), or fiddleback spider, has a distinctive fiddle-shaped mark on its back. They are generally found in the south central U.S. (Texas through Georgia) but can be found as far north as Iowa, central Illinois and Indiana. The brown recluse is nocturnal and not aggressive. Other species of Loxosceles may produce wounds that are not as serious as the brown recluse's bite. Hobo spiders (Tegenaria agrestis) are found in Washington, Oregon and Idaho (as well as western Canada and Alaska), and can cause similar necrotic lesions like the brown recluse. They are large, aggressive brown spiders and build their webs at ground level or in basements. Recluse spider venom contains compounds that destroy cell membranes. The venom attracts white blood cells, which also increases the cellular damage. If absorbed into the blood stream, the venom can break down red blood cells, causing anemia. The venom also affects coagulation and can cause bleeding. Initially, the bites are only slightly painful. Over an eight-hour period, the bite will become red, swollen and tender. In people, you may notice a "bull's-eye" lesion, but this is rarely seen in cats and dogs due to their hair coat. Tissue around the bite begins to die, and a wound as large as 10 inches in diameter can occur. Healing is slow and may take months. Animals are treated with pain medications and antibiotics. Multiple bandage changes may be needed over several weeks. Some wounds may even require surgical closure. Animals with anemia or clotting problems may need intravenous fluids and blood transfusions. Fortunately, most cases only show mild local signs, but if you suspect your pet has been bitten by one of these spider species, consult your veterinarian. Tarantulas There are some species of tarantulas found in the U.S. that produce venom that may cause local pain. Tarantulas can be found in the wild in the southwestern, central or western regions of the country. They have also become increasingly popular as exotic pets in the home, where furry four-legged pets may encounter these equally furry eight-legged oddities. It's not just the mild venom that can cause problems for pets: Ingestion of the stiff hairs covering the spider's legs by pets can also cause drooling, oral irritation, pain and vomiting. Tarantulas can actually "throw" these irritating hairs at targets when they feel that they are under threat, so you should never put your face close to a pet tarantula or allow your pet to get that close either. However, despite the Hollywood-inspired, fear-inducing reputation of tarantula spiders, no serious problems should be expected if your pet is bitten. Tarantulas are actually in more danger from your dog or cat than the spider is to them. Tarantulas can jump and may be injured in a fall. Furthermore, this jumping behavior makes them irresistible "toys" for cats and dogs, and tarantulas can die from a bite from a pet. However, as always, if you suspect your pet has had a run-in with a tarantula friend, be sure to consult your veterinarian. See Also: 10 Other Poisonous Critters to Avoid Keep a Friendly Distance Spiders of all kinds are ubiquitous in the environment, and it can be hard to totally prevent your pet from coming in contact with them. They are also beneficial in helping to keep populations of other buggy pests at bay, so you don't want to harm spiders that are simply minding their own business out-of-doors. However, you can do your best to minimize any risks to your pets by keeping them out of areas where spiders are noticeably present, such as basements, crawl spaces or outbuildings. Shake out any pet towels or blankets before using. Regularly dust and/or vacuum any webs away from living areas where your pet likes to play or rest. Finally, keep clutter to a minimum in order to cut down on any likely spider habitat in your home.

Antibiotics

#14 Antibiotics The real title of this should be 'antibiotics when not used in moderation.' Most of us have heard that a disease or bacteria that is exposed to antibiotics routinely will become resistant, forming a sort of superbug. Basically, the disease gets more powerful the more you try to treat it. So, as we use antibiotics more and more to cure our ailments our body's bacteria become more and more resistant to them. So, as doctors become more and more reliant upon chemical cures instead of natural resistance and a stick-it-out approach, bugs become stronger and stronger. According to Shane Ellison, M.S., from The People's Chemist, the three most dangerous antibiotics currently being prescribed are Levaquin, Vancocin, and Bactrim. This is not to say you should take a holistic approach to curing yourself, because many modern antibiotics can be life-saving. Just do not overdo it and take the doses your doctor prescribes to avoid your immune system being outdone by superbugs. This is especially a problem within animals that are treated in mass by these drugs, but for humans it is a real threat as well.

Cucumbers

Spice up your 8 glasses per day of water with a slice or two of cucumber. It's wonderfully refreshing, but there are amazing benefits to cucumber as well. Cucumbers are cooler than you think ... SHARE THIS AWESOME INFORMATION ... 1. Fat busting: Do you ever wonder why women put cucumbers on their eyes to relieve puffiness? The photochemical in cucumbers makes the collagen in your skin tighten, thus the lack of puffiness. Did you know that you can rub a cucumber on a problematic spot of cellulite anywhere on your body to lessen the visibility of it? Did you also know that it has the same effect on wrinkles? Wow, it makes purchasing those fifty dollar creams seem a little silly, doesn’t it? You can also rub a little bit under your kiddo’s eyes after a long bout of crying to avoid that puffy ‘I cried for an hour straight’ look. 2. Defogger: Do you get annoyed when you get out of the shower and you have to fight the fog on the mirror? Who has time for that when the kids will be awake at any moment? Try rubbing a slice of cucumber on the mirror before you hop in and not only will you get a fog-free mirror, but you’ll have a nice smell that will boost your mood. 3. Headaches: If you suffer from headaches from chasing your babies all day (or pets or your husband), or had a little too much wine with dinner and want to avoid a hangover, eat half of a cucumber before bed. Cucumbers are high in B vitamins, sugar, and electrolytes, and they replenish the nutrients missing in your body to help you avoid a hang over or to beat that headache that’s been threatening to take over. 4. WD-40 replacement: Did you know you can get rid of a squeak by rubbing a cucumber on the hinge? Wow, now you don’t have to tear your garage apart looking for that little can with the red straw, and the baby won’t wake up when you slowly open the nursery door to check on him. 5. Crayon on the walls: Take an unpeeled cucumber and rub the crayon off of the walls in the event that your kiddo left you some art. You can also use this technique to erase a pen mistake. 6. Halitosis killer: Take a slice of cucumber and put it on the roof of your mouth. Hold it there with your tongue for 30 seconds. The photochemical that you love for cellulite and puff reduction will also kill the bacteria that is causing your bad breath. 7. Tarnish remover: If you’re finding tarnish on your stainless steel kitchen faucets and appliances? Rub it off with a cucumber slice. Not only will it remove years of tarnish, it will leave it streak free and your hands will thank you, and your kids won’t be put at risk from a dangerous chemical. 8. Energy booster: If you’re feeling tired in the afternoon, don’t give Starbucks your five bucks. Instead, grab a cucumber. There are just enough carbohydrates and B vitamins to give you a longer-lasting and healthier boost of energy than soda, coffee, or those health hazard energy drinks. 9. Munchy madness: Did you know that European trappers ate cucumbers for energy and to keep from starving to death? If those big burly manly men can eat a cucumber to keep from starving, you can eat one as a healthy choice when the munchies hit. Slice some up and take them in a small plastic container to the movies if your theater doesn’t offer healthy alternatives to munching on butter soaked popcorn. 10. Frugal facial: Slice up a cucumber and boil it in a pot of water. The chemicals inside of the cucumber will mix with the steam. Remove the pot from heat and lean over it, letting the steam hit you. Your skin will be more radiant and healthy, and you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated. 11. Shoe polish: Cut a slice off of your cucumber and rub it on your shoe. It will not only shine it up, but it will repel water. 12. Pest control: Put three or four slices of cucumber in a small pie tin and place them in your garden. The chemicals in the cucumber have a reaction that pests hate. You won’t smell it, but it will drive them from your garden all year long. Replace them periodically. 13. Sunburn: Sometimes sun block doesn’t always protect your little ones from sunburn. If you have burnt little kiddos you don’t have any aloe, rub some cucumber on them. Many doctors even use cucumber to treat patients with irritated skin and sunburns. 14. Blood pressure: Cucumber has been long used to treat high blood pressure. If you have it, add cucumbers to your daily diet. There is also ongoing research into the use of cucumbers for lowering cholesterol. 15. Constipation remedy: The seeds of a cucumber are a diuretic. If you’re constipated, try eating a cucumber. If you suffer from chronic constipation, add cucumber to your daily diet

Natural Roach Repellent

It is no mystery that humans generally do not like bugs. However, there are some bugs that just rank a little higher on our “nasty scale” than others. Most folks would agree that cockroaches would definitely be on our list of bugs we hate. People have a general idea that cockroaches are gross, but do you know specifically how they are a danger to your health? Essential Oils Many bugs find the scent of essential oils repellant. Roaches are no exception. You can create your own homemade roach spray using completely non-toxic essential oils. The most effective oils at repelling roaches are cypress oil and peppermint oil. To make a non-toxic roach spray, mix 8 drops of cypress oil and 10 drops of peppermint oil to half a cup of water. Spray the mixture anywhere you have roach issues. The added benefit is that these oils smell lovely. No gas masks required. Asthma and Allergies Surprisingly, the biggest threat posed by roaches is their effect on our breathing. A majority of people are allergic to roaches to some degree. When there are a large number of roaches present in a home, roach by products, if you will, such as eggs, outer shell particles, saliva and even their feces, become airborne. These contaminates become a part of the dust in your home. When breathed in by individuals that are allergic, sickness to varying degrees can occur. Individuals with asthma are especially sensitive to these type of airborne contaminates and when exposed can have increased difficulties breathing. Bacteria Roaches also affect our health in that they can carry many different types on bacteria on their body. Roaches are not very picky about where they hang out. Once they have exposed themselves to something gross, they can then carry any bacteria they picked up into your living and eating areas. It is uncommon for a human to directly contract a disease from a cockroach, but because cockroaches live in such large groups and multiply so quickly, you can understand how being exposed to many roaches means you are being exposed to more and more bacteria. Chemicals Another surprising risk posed to humans would be the chemicals we will voluntarily expose ourselves to in an effort to get rid of the roaches. Some of the most toxics substances people allow in their homes are for the use of pest control. Many of these chemicals have warnings that advise you not to touch or inhale the substance and yet we will spray and smear these products in areas where are children and pets will be wandering around on a daily basis. Thankfully, there are safer alternatives. Keep Tidy This seems like a no brainer, but roaches love dirty environments. They like a sink full of unwashed dishes and trash cans that should have been emptied yesterday. You can do yourself a great service by simply keeping the house, especially the kitchen, as clean as possible. Since roaches are very active at night, washing up the dishes and taking out the trash before bed can go a long way toward decreasing the roach population in your home. Get Rid of Cardboard Cardboard is a roach’s favorite place to hang out and breed. It’s like a roach nightclub. Any cardboard items in your home should be properly disposed of to cut down on roach activity. Seal Up Cracks Roaches generally come in your house from outside, so it is a good idea to seal up as many cracks as possible in your walls and floor boards. This can easily be done by purchasing an inexpensive caulking gun and simply following the directions. The fewer access points that roaches have to your house, the fewer roaches you will have in your house!

7 Things To Do With Egg Shells

Eggs are one of the most popular foods in the world. They have crossed all cultural, geographic and social boundaries, and almost everyone in the world has enjoyed an egg at some time or other. They are a great source of protein and essential vitamins. But what about egg shells? Egg shells also have a great many uses. They contain a large amount of calcium. Their primary use is thus in gardening, where egg shells are ground up and mixed with the soil to give the soil a calcium boost. You can also eat egg shells and use them in various other ways. Some of the cool things you can do with egg shells are given below. 1) Mix with hen feed Eggshells are about 95% calcium. Clearly, hens need a large amount of calcium to lay eggs with a strong shell. You can grind up egg shells and mix it with chicken feed in order to give your chicken its necessary dose of calcium. It is not unhealthy for the chicken, as long as you ensure that the egg shells are properly sterilized. This is particularly important if you get your eggs from a source where you are not sure if they are being sterilized properly 2) Calcium for your pets Stop giving your pets calcium tablets, and switch to egg shells. When sterilized and ground up properly, they provide an effective source for bone strengthening calcium for your pets.. 3) Treat yourself to some calcium If you are suffering from calcium deficiency, you can easily add some eggshell to your diet. Be sure however, to sterilize and thoroughly bake the shells first, as they might contain harmful bacteria. Grind them up and add to a food you can swallow down (they can be unpleasant to chew. 4) Add to garden soil This is by far the most popular use of egg shells. Egg shells contain about 95% calcium carbonate. This mineral helps ensure proper fruit growth, and is thus particularly important with fruit and vegetable plants. You have to grind it very finely, so that the calcium is made available to your plants faster. Calcium enriched soil gives you some of the best fruit grows you can achieve. You can also add ground egg shells to your compost bin, and then use the compost to fertilize the soil to good effect. 5) Pest deterrent in your garden Garden slugs are not fond of jagged, roughly ground egg shells. Cutworms aren’t very fond of them either. So to deter these bugs from crawling up your precious plants, you can sprinkle roughly ground egg shells al around the stems of your plants. This is a really effective and considerably cheap insect deterrent, and its great for your plants and the environment too. 6) As an abrasive Ground egg shells are quite rough, and you can use them as an abrasive for cleaning particularly difficult stains on your cooking utensils. However, they are bound to leave scratches on the surface of the pans. So make sure you don’t use egg shells if you don’t want to see any scratches on the surface. 7) Give your coffee new flavor You can add ground egg shells while brewing coffee. The calcium in the egg shells react with the acid in the coffee, which leaves coffee sweeter and much more pleasant tasting. You can them filter off the coffee grounds and the egg shells with a cloth filter. The key to using egg shells in any way is to always make sure that they are very well sterilized. Most uses of egg shells require grinding. For dry grinding, first thoroughly sterilize the eggshells, and then plop them into the oven and bake for about 15 minutes. The eggshells should be very dry. Then all you do is fold the egg shells into a thick cloth (thin cloth will tear up due to rough edges) Hammer with a heavy object. Repeat the process to get a fine powder. Egg shells have a diverse range of uses if you know how to use them properly. Just be creative, and never forget to sterilize.

How To Treat DeHydration

The risk of dehydration is particularly great in babies, children and the elderly. Because of this danger it’s very important to treat them immediately. Any case of dehydration has the potential to become a life-threatening situation. Some of the more visible signs of dehydration include thirst, dark colored urine, lethargy or unexplained tiredness, dizziness, lack of tears when crying (mostly in children), headache, or blood in stool (mostly in children). You can also experience dehydration if you’re not drinking enough while doing strenuous activities. When people become dehydrated as a result of illness or prolonged periods outdoors in the heat, it’s possible to use home remedies for treatment. However, these remedies should not replace immediate medical help when necessary. Some options available to you are: Lime juice: Add 1 teaspoon of lime juice, a pinch of salt, and 1 teaspoon sugar to approximately 1 pint of water. Sip this all throughout the day. Electrolyte replacement drink: Add 1 tablespoon of salt, 2-3 tablespoons of sugar or honey and – whole lemon juice or other unsweetened flavor powder or syrup to 1 liter of water and mix well. NOTE: Do not use artificial sweeteners to replace the sugar or honey. Water based soups: Bouillons or stocks such as chicken or beef. For more substance, try adding some crushed soda crackers. Flavored gelatins: Gelatins work well for rehydration, as their primary ingredient is water. The variety of flavors available enables you to provide a bit of variety. Breast milk and formula: If you are breastfeeding your child, continue to do so even if baby is vomiting. If you are bottle feeding your child, start out with two days of electrolyte replacement followed by a day of half-strength formula. Return to full strength formula after one complete day. BRAT diet: A diet of bananas, rice, apples and toast can be started when vomiting has ceased for at least four hours. Other simple starch items such as potatoes or noodles can also be used. Use this diet for adults and children who are already weaned. Another way to help beat dehydration is by staying cool. Hot weather is especially dangerous for the elderly and infants. Start by removing excess clothing and switching to loose and light clothing instead. Air conditioned environments are fantastic options for keeping body temperatures in the normal range, breaking any cycles of heat exposure. However, if air conditioning is not an option you can choose to use fans indoors. If you must be outside, choose a shaded area to lessen the heat. Spray bottles or sprits bottles filled with lukewarm water can be used to refresh exposed areas of skin. The exposed skin surfaces will benefit from the cooling resulting from evaporation. It’s important, however, to steer clear of excessive cold. Ice packs or ice water applied to the skin can result in the skin’s blood vessels contracting. This will result in a decrease instead of increase in heat loss. Not to mention the shivering exposure to extreme cold causes – this in turn increases body temperature all over again. From infants to the elderly, dehydration is a serious condition. By following these recommendations you will find yourself able to deal with the effects of dehydration should they strike you or others around you.

Bible Scripture~

Leviticus 18:22-23 22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. NKJV Leviticus 18:24-30 24 'Do not defile yourselves with any of these things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am casting out before you. 25 For the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants. 26 You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations, either any of your own nation or any stranger who dwells among you 27 (for all these abominations the men of the land have done, who were before you, and thus the land is defiled), 28 lest the land vomit you out also when you defile it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you. 29 For whoever commits any of these abominations, the persons who commit them shall be cut off from among their people. 30 'Therefore you shall keep My ordinance, so that you do not commit any of these abominable customs which were committed before you, and that you do not defile yourselves by them: I am the Lord your God.'" NKJV Romans 1:27-32 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
